The Newton City/County Airport Industrial Park is located in the unincorporated part of Harvey County and carries the enhanced enterprise zone status. There are three separate tracts of land which comprise the available acreage. The west side has approximately 70 acres. The remaining 70+ acre tract is located to the east. An additional 150 acres contiguous to the airport is available for development.
Fire protection is provided by the City of Newton which operates fire station facilities to the site. 911 emergency phone service is also available. Newton Medical Center is dedicated to providing health care services to the residents of Harvey and the surrounding counties and offers full general, surgical and emergency assistance.
Some restrictive height covenants are associated with the development because the acreage is adjacent to the airport. Construction on, or additions to, the property must comply with FAA guidelines and airport regulations.
Presently, there are 25 buildings serving 15 commercial tenants at the Airport Industrial Park. Among these tenants are Avcon Industries, Midwest Aircraft Services, and the Hesston College Aviation School. Land leases are negotiable between the tenant and Aviation Commission.
Butler Rural Electric Cooperative, the supplier of electricity to the industrial park, offers a 0% interest loan fund for qualified economic development projects. Administered by the Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, funds are available for new and expanding businesses creating jobs and investing in Kansas.
